the Warehouse in Liverpool, 1982.

First Gig - support to "Twisted Nervez"

From left to right; "Quiet Lad" being far from boisterous on lead guitar;
"Dez" sporting (what he considered to be) a rather fashionable
"Flock of Seagulls" influenced hair style;
Rob "Pyro" Ferrier on drums (this was 2 years before Nick joined the merry ranks)
and "Kwinn" on bass, just before the unpleasant disagreement with
Gaz and Dez mentioned previously. Gaz, on second guitar, is not visible in this shot.

The crowd were pleasantly supportive of this, the chaps' first experience of playing in front of people. However, as is always the case when a new local band hit the circuit, the majority of the crowd were personal chums.
(Fielding's brother; Fielding; Helen "Stein" and Joaaaaaaaaana "Stein" are all visible in the front row.)

"The Warehouse" became the most popular Merseyside live music venue after the infamous "Erics" finally closed it's doors a year or so earlier. Here one could experience an intelligent and eclectic bag of musical offerings - acts that would most probably be referred to today as "alternative".
Dez and Gaz were more than happy to be considered as alternative musicians, in fact, so abhorred were they by the awful chart music of the time, that one of the songs in this gig was entitled "Chuck Funk" ! (Of course this was long before funk became fashionable, and Dez claimed he had been into it all along !)

Many of the 80's rock dinosaurs first appeared in Liverpool at this venue, including "Tears for Fears", "UB40", "Frankie goes to Hollywood" and "The Smiths", to name but a few.

The club suffered a nasty fire a few years later, that more or less gutted the place, and never re-opened.
It is fondly missed today by the local punters, and holds a special place in Dez's memories.

How many sodden feet have trodden this path ?
